It’s the last day of the year! 2021 was a year full of challenges, uncertainties, and changes. We had to adapt to the new normal, cancel trips, plans, etc. As the world is slowly returning to normal (or at least we hope so) we are starting to plan again. We are anxious to do a lot of things and we are sure that you are too. Have you made your New Years’ resolutions? This year, fill your resolution list with easy, good-for-you goals, and may we suggest one? Become more sustainable!

Why?
Our planet is in constant transformation, climate change is increasing, wildlife is becoming extinct, pollution is covering cities and COVID-19 is still around us. We have all wondered, what can we do to help our planet? How can we become more sustainable? In order to answer these questions first, we have to be conscious of the magnitude of the problems we are facing.
Everyone’s life has changed ever since the pandemic started, and that is why we must be aware and act as quickly as possible. The answer to generating a real impact on the environment is sustainability. But first, let’s define what sustainability is. According to the United Nations, sustainability is defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Nowadays, there are almost 140 developing countries in the world seeking ways of meeting their development needs, but with the increasing threat of climate change, concrete efforts must be made to ensure development today does not negatively affect future generations.

You don’t really have to make big changes in order to live more sustainably. We’re going to provide you with a few hacks you can apply in your daily life that don’t require a lot of effort that will help you become greener.
Save Energy
Let’s start with one of the easiest ones, energy. Whenever you leave a room always turn off the lights! You can start by switching your lightbulbs to LED, they will help you save energy as well as money. By using less energy, you can help to reduce carbon emissions.

Eat Less Meat
We are not saying you have to stop eating meat altogether, but did you know that the production of meat is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and pollution? By eating less of it, you can help to reduce the impact the meat industry has on the Earth.

Reusable Products
It’s time to make the best out of your daily use products. For example, carrying your own reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water. Take your own grocery bags instead of using plastic bags at the market, replace straws with metal ones and buy bamboo-made products! In a few words reduce your plastic consumption as much as you can.

Go Paperless
Even though we’re in the 21st Century and technology is really advanced, you would be surprised by the number of people that still use paper for a lot of things. To avoid wasting paper, take advantage of the technology we have at hand and only print things when they are completely necessary.

Recycle & Reuse
Make sure that you always separate the trash correctly and always recycle! Also, take into account all of the things you can reuse for something else. Before throwing away something always think of another use you could give it.

Don’t Waste Food
If you have leftovers, don’t throw them away. Save them for another occasion or even freeze them. If you have food that doesn’t work anymore there is always the option of creating compost! There are companies that specialize in this and that are a great way to stop unnecessary waste.

Drive Less
Instead of taking the car for a ride try walking or riding a bike. It’s good for your health and the environment, you help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that have a great impact on the planet.

What are you waiting for? It’s time for a fresh start, 2022 could be the year that changes it all if we want to. Let’s work together and start making small changes in our daily routines in order to generate a positive impact. There is no time to waste, the time is now and our planet needs us.
